Caine Ballard Named New GHS Football Coach

Greeneville High School is proud to
announce today the appointment of Caine Ballard as head
coach of the Greeneville Greene Devil football program. Coach Ballard had been previously named as interim
head coach and his permanent duties are effective immediately.
Coach Ballard was selected by a hiring
committee composed of GHS teachers, coaches, administrators, and parents. Coach Ballard was selected from a pool of over
thirty applicants and several other candidates during the interview process.

Director of Schools stated today, I have nothing but respect for Caine Ballard. He is known as the emotional leader of the Greene
Devil football team, both on and off the field. I
am excited for Coach Ballard as he enters this new phase of his career, and am equally
excited for our high school and community concerning the great things to come in continued
athletic excellence at GHS.
Randy Richards, GHS Athletic Director,
stated, Coach Ballard brings many positive aspects to the head coaching position for
GHS football. His leadership will ensure
continuity to the program and I am confident in his ability to build on the recent
successes of Greene Devil football.
Caine Ballard is a 1993 graduate of Rhea County High School located
in Dayton, TN. Caine was a three sport athlete, playing football, baseball, and
basketball for the Golden Eagles. He began his collegiate career at
Carson-Newman College and later transferred to the University of Tennessee. After
graduating with a Bachelors and Masters degree in Business Education from the University
of Tennessee, he spent two years teaching and coaching at Maryville (TN) High
School where he was an offensive assistant under now head coach George
Quarles. He was part of a state championship staff at MHS in 1998.
Caine is married to Joey (Fillers) Ballard. They are the parents
of three children Cade (8), and twin daughters Parker and Palmer (3). He and
his family have lived in Greeneville for ten years. Caine has served as an
assistant coach for Greeneville High School for nine of the ten years.
He served as the offensive coordinator for the Greene Devils for the past two
seasons. Prior to taking a year off when his twin daughters were born , he also
served as the offensive coordinator from 2002-2005. In his nine seasons as an
assistant, the Greene Devils have reached the quarterfinals of the state playoffs five
times and the semi-finals twice.

Caine Ballard Named Interim Head Coach

Athletic Director, announced this afternoon the appointment of Caine Ballard to serve as
the GHS interim head football coach.
Coach Ballard will be in charge of the organization of weight training, spring practice
and summer work-out scheduling.
GHS spring football practice will be held May 4 - May 15.
Former head football coach Steve
McCurry resigned from his position March 12.
The Greeneville City School System is now taking applications for the position of GHS head
football coach. Applications can be submitted online at www.gcschools.net. The deadline is April 3, 2009.

Dr. Lyle Ailshie, Director of Schools, announced
this afternoon that Steve McCurry,
head football coach at Greeneville
High School, has resigned his position as teacher and coach effective immediately. Both
Dr. Ailshie and Dr. Linda Stroud, principal of Greeneville High School, said that they
want to thank Coach McCurry for his service to the school and its students and
congratulate him for the success of the Greeneville High School football team under his
guidance.
Additional
information regarding the future leadership of the Greeneville High School football team
will be forthcoming in the next few days as these decisions are made.

Greeneville Ends Season with 11-2
Record |
| Greeneville High School finished their 2008 campaign with an 11-2 record
and a semi-final game against Maryville. Statistics for the game are now available.
Thanks to our website visitors this season, and thanks to those who used our
streaming audio to listen to the game. The server was at its maximum limit from
kickoff until the end of the game. For those who were unable to connect, we
apologize and will make efforts in the future to handle more traffic.
As the streaming was so successful, we anticipate using it for more local broadcasts,
including GHS girls and boys basketball, the GreeneBank Ladies Classic, and maybe even
local news. Check back on this webpage for announcements of upcoming broadcasts and

Tentative 2009 Football Schedule
Greeneville High has announced their tentative 2009 football schedule. All
conference game dates and locations are confirmed and were set at a conference meeting on
November 14. Non-conference games and locations will not be official until contracts
are signed, however the likely opponents, dates, and locations have been determined. |

Information About the Post-Season In New Classification
Understanding the playoff scenarios under the TSSAA's "Z-plan" which will go
into effect in the 2009 season is complicated. Teams which will compete as Double A
during the regular season but will fall in the 4A category are listed here, along with
their 2006, 2007, and 2008 season records. Also, the criteria for the playoffs as
set by the TSSAA is briefly explained. |

Greeneville's New Conference Announced
Greeneville High School will join a
conference with South Greene, West Greene, and Chuckey Doak next year, based on a decision by
the school last month and action by the TSSAA at their Board of Control meeting Thursday,
November 13. Other teams in the new conference will be Grainger County, Cumberland Gap,
and Claiborne. |

Ryan Fillers Sets Touchdown Catch Record
Greeneville Wide Receiver Ryan Fillers set a new
conference and possibly school record with his 12th touchdown catch of the year in a 34-14
win over Morristown East at Burley Stadium on Friday, October 24, 2008. The previous
record was held by Chase Greenway, who had a conference leading 11 touchdown catches his
senior year. |

Greeneville Chooses To Play Down in Double A Enrollment
The Greeneville City Schools released the following statement. After a great
deal of research and an examination of all available options, Greeneville High School has
decided that its high school athletic teams will participate at the assigned level for the
next four years. This means that the school will be considered a Double A school for most
sports. While the school will compete with the same conference schools in all sports,
football will be further divided to determine playoff participation. Greeneville High
School will be placed in the upper half of Double A schools for football playoffs. This is
what is being called Four A for football. |

Jordan Greenway Sets New School Record
Greeneville Quarterback Jordan Greenway
set a new school record for career yards passing and became the first quarterback in GHS
history to pass for more than 5,000 yards. Greenway threw for 319 yards and three
touchdown in the October 17, 2008, overtime win over Morristown West, 34-31. Through
eight games in the 2008 season, Greenway has passed for 5,252 yards in his four year
career. |

The 2nd Class of the Greeneville High School Sports Hall of Fame was inducted at
ceremonies held at Greeneville High School on October 24, 2008. Thirteen atheletes
joined the fifteen people who were inducted in to the inaugural class in 2007. |
